President's Message (January 2021)

Greetings SWA members and Happy New Year,

So far, 2021 has made its way in a very similar fashion as it ushered away 2020; COVID-19 remains front and centre in our lives. Our ability to socialize and enjoy the company of others is still very limited. As I write this, Ontario and specifically the GTA is on lockdown 2.0. What did we learn from Lockdown 1.0? We learned that if we don’t work together to minimize the spread of COVID-19, we are faced with the possibility of going into lockdown 3.0!

However, on a positive note, we learned of the resiliency of our SWA members. Throughout 2020 and going into 2021, most of our industry has been deemed essential again, thus allowing our members to continue operations in some form or another. This means keeping our employees working, keeping our suppliers busy and servicing our clients.

Thank you to all our members who joined us for our first and only zoom Annual General Meeting. This meeting was 180 degrees different than our last Niagara Falls best AGM in the business. Following our December virtual AGM, our Board looked at our calendar of events for 2021 and we thought these events would take place in some limited form. As such, we sent out the invites for our ski day at Osler. Subsequently, this had to be canceled due to further COVID-19 restrictions.

Your Board has been hard at work with our seminar program and are pleased that our first seminar  will be on April 20, 2021 most likely at a very busy venue called Zoom! The seminar will be on the upcoming changes to the CCDC 2 contract. The contents of this contract are updated every ten years or so to reflect industry changes. Since we all use a CCDC contract in some form throughout the construction industry, I strongly recommend you register for this.

UPCOMING EVENTS

Over the course of the year, we will continue to provide value to our membership based on our Vision Statement: “To be recognized as the most trusted source of knowledge in the Sealant and Waterproofing industry in Ontario”. Your Board is also busy putting on the finishing touches on a NEW and exciting initiative that is designed to engage our membership. Please keep an eye on your inbox in the next few weeks.

Our motto is “Remember the strength of our Association is based on knowledge”.  There is no better time to keep yourself informed.

Stay Safe!
